Ladies!!!!!!!! What is one thing we can all agree on sucks about all of our bodies? Our periods of course! I’ve always learned the average blood lost during the WHOLE menstrual cycle is about 2.5 tablespoons. Yeah right!!!! I don’t know many chicks that are that lucky! The menstrual cycle is designed to go through monthly changes in preparation for the possibility of pregnancy. Each month, one of the ovaries releases an egg. At the same time, hormonal changes prepare the uterus for pregnancy. If ovulation takes place and the egg isn’t fertilized, the lining of the uterus sheds through the vagina. This is a menstrual period. What you are looking at here is a diagram showing a uterus next to a real uterus of a woman of childbearing age. This bloody tissue present in the triangular uterine (endometrial) cavity is what is build up over the month and is shed during a menstrual period. This is also the cavity a little baby will grow in if pregnancy does occur. A uterus was the first real organ I ever dissected and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Then I thought about it and all the bloody mucous material present when you bivalve the uterus is actual period tissue you are touching😁! A little gross, but that’s what being a PA is all about!!!
